Board Leadership Changes Announced
A message from Adam Birnbaum, president of the Healthcare SIG

With any organization, change is inevitable. This is especially true of a volunteer organization, where your family and primary job come first. JoAnn Klinedinst, vice president of the Healthcare SIG, recently accepted a dynamic position with HIMSS. As a result of her new responsibilities, JoAnn was concerned about her ability to be a vital member of the board this year and serve as its president next year. On June 2, JoAnn asked to resign from the board. After speaking with JoAnn, I believe she is making the best decision for herself and her family. I also wish to thank her for the time she's given us; her contributions have been significant and her enthusiasm and creative solutions have been instrumental in the progress we've made. There is no doubt she would have made a great president next year. I wish her best of luck with HIMSS. They have a spirited leader.

Fortunately, because we have a strong organization filled with outstanding individuals, I am pleased to announce the following changes to the board of directors through December 2006:

Michele Mills, current secretary, will ascend to the post of vice president. Michele will assume the presidency on January 1, 2007. Since starting as LIG coordinator last summer, Michele has proven herself as a leader and one dedicated to the task. This motivation followed her when she became secretary this past spring. I look forward to training her this year.

Sue Houston, current director of membership, has accepted the post of secretary. Sue is one of our founding members and has witnessed the substantive evolution of the SIG. As a result, she's definitely prepared to start the climb to the presidency. She will become the vice president on
January 1, 2007.

Marc Hirshfield, current director of events, will assume the role of director of membership. Since joining the board in May 2005, Marc has successfully used his project management and entrepreneurial skills to lead many remarkable events. He has a great interest in helping drive membership value and I look forward to seeing him make a difference in the lives of our members. His tenure will end on December 31, 2006 and he will decide his future direction this fall.

Elizabeth Allen, current conference logistics lead who joined the committee ranks this spring, has been promoted to director of events. During her brief stint in the events committee, Beth has illustrated leadership, talent and management skills in the three events she's helped to manage.
She's a welcome addition to the board of directors. Her tenure also expires on December 31, 2006 and she will decide her path this fall.

I thank each of these individuals for their service and flexibility. I also want to thank our membership for the ongoing support of the Healthcare SIG and its leaders. I have reviewed the recent survey results and heard your opinions. We're already hard at work on a few of your ideas, including development of an enhanced web site to include a member's secure section. Once complete, we will be able to provide you with the resources and benefits that were identified in the survey and at last year's board retreat, as well as incorporate some of the ideas you shared in the survey responses.

If you have any questions about the board changes or the upcoming offerings, do not hesitate to contact me at president@pmihealthcare.org.
