A
Message for Members
Knowing
the right thing to do on a project is not as challenging as knowing to
do the right thing the right way at the right time.
Experience
has taught us all that we are far better advised to not leave anything
to chance in any phase or any portion of the critical path of any project.
If we do, or slip in any way, we are headed for lessons learned. And the
last thing anyone wants to hear is "You're the professional, you
have all the training, we depended on you to avoid all complications!"
In the early years of project management, we can be humbled by accepting
misinformation for fact and valid report data. Afterwards, we learn about
evidence based reporting - where the lead project manager demands that
all "Metrics of Progress" be verified with factual proof and
data by which tasks were signed off by pairs in teams rather than one
individual. When any elements are in question, the customary response
should be "What is the backup plan?"
As professionals with snippets of training, we can never hope to avoid
all the complications. Instead, we should be prepared to deal with the
unexpected by having contingencies. In today's world we can lessen the
need for emergency e-mails and voice mails by turning off our iPods and
devoting time to
quiet quality thinking at the time of day when we function best - and
that will be different for all of us.
When communicating, make sure that you place your primary message within
the first three sentences of any communication since many are guilty of
scanning messages when they feel pressed for time.
The
Healthcare SIG Board depends on communications from our membership to
give direction on satisfying needs. If you have a message to share and
can spend ten minutes in composing your thoughts, we
would appreciate hearing from you.
