A monthly publication of the PMI® Healthcare SIG                                                 March 2008

Message for Members

I joined a number of the SIG board members at the HIMSS annual conference in Orlando last month. We enjoyed meeting many of you when you stopped by our booth. When you are in a virtual organization such as ours, it is good to get a chance to meet each other in person. We had many people who are Healthcare SIG members, PMI members, as well as nonmembers stop by to learn about PMI and our SIG. Our goal was to recruit additional members who will be available to you for networking and mentoring.

In an effort to provide you with additional benefits, please see the announcement below regarding the updates to our website. Now that the member’s only section is available, we are working to add new functionality such as a job center and a resource center. Look for these to come later this year. If you have any other ideas for functionality in this area, please contact me.

Sue Houston, PMP
Healthcare SIG President

a Series of Live Webinars

Presenter:
Kiron D. Bondale, PMP, MBA - Solution Q Inc.
Date: March 25 or March 26· 2 PM EST
Cost: Free to Healthcare SIG members
PDUs: PMPs earn 1 PDU.

The Healthcare SIG and Solution Q have teamed-up to deliver a series of three webinars offered over the next few months. The next webinar offered in this series is Practical Project Risk Management.

Risks exist on projects because by definition, projects possess uncertainty. Organizations that ignore risks experience reduced project success rates due to the wasted effort and delays that result from dealing with issues.

Risk management methodologies address this challenge but tend to be too theoretical or require significant process discipline or historical data to be practical.

During this webinar you will learn practical, lightweight best practices for managing risks throughout a project's lifecycle.

Benefits of managing risks through this approach include:

     Improved project predictability
Improved ROI for your overall portfolio
Quantification of cost & schedule contingencies
Reduced effort spent resolving project issues
